PES Electrical

PES Electrical manufactures and maintains smart prepaid energy meters across 15+ cities. Joistic built the platform their field teams use to check in at sites, with live location, fake-GPS detection and device checks that stop attendance fraud.

The client

About the client

PES Electrical Pvt. Ltd. has been in business since 1998 and has manufactured smart meters since 2012. Its prepaid and dual-source (grid and DG) meters run in housing societies, townships, factories and utilities, with more than 1,50,700 meters deployed across 15+ cities in India, Nepal and Nigeria (figures from PES).

The problem

What needed fixing

Meters are installed and maintained on site, so PES depends on field staff spread across many locations. Knowing who actually reached which site, and when, was hard to verify from phone calls and registers.

Phone-based attendance has its own loophole: apps that fake a GPS location, or one person marking attendance on someone else's phone.

What we built

The system, piece by piece

QR check-in at every site

Each site has its own QR code. Staff scan it to check in and out, and the app records the time and the phone's live location.

Work tickets

Site visits can be tied to work tickets with expiry dates, so a check-in only counts against a valid job.

Attendance and hours

Daily check-in and check-out times, hours worked and monthly totals are calculated automatically.

Admin dashboard

Sites, staff, location history, attendance and tickets on one dashboard, with a live map, Excel import and export, and reports.

Push notifications

Admins can request a location update and send alerts to staff phones.

Controls

How attendance fraud is caught

  • Fake-GPS detection: check-ins from phones reporting a mock (spoofed) location are flagged.
  • Device binding: each account is tied to one phone, and the admin is alerted if someone logs in from a different device.
  • QR at the site: a check-in needs the site's own QR code, not just a location.
  • Ticket checks: where tickets are switched on, a check-in needs a valid, unexpired ticket number.
Results

What changed

  • Attendance for field teams verified by site QR, live location and device, instead of calls and registers.
  • Common spoofing tricks (fake GPS apps, logging in on another person's phone) flagged automatically.
  • Monthly attendance and hours available as reports instead of being compiled by hand.

Not every useful automation needs AI. For PES, simple, hard-to-fake checks did more for field operations than any dashboard could.
